Mucuchies are large dogs that can weigh between 30 to 80 kg and stand between 55.9 to 80.1 cm tall. They have a thick and abundant coat that can be either straight or slightly wavy, and it comes in white or cream color. The breed is known for being affectionate, intelligent, and very active.

The Mucuchies breed has played an important role in Venezuelan history. The breed gained national attention when Simon Bolivar, the liberator of Venezuela, adopted a Mucuchies named Nevado during his campaign against the Spanish colonial forces. Nevado became Bolivar’s loyal companion and was present during many of his battles. According to legend, Nevado saved Bolivar’s life by attacking an assassin who was about to stab him in the back.
